BrooklineCAN's Livable Community Advocacy Committee (LCAC) meets monthly to learn from influencial people in town and let them know which issues are of interest or concern to older adults. Specific committee activities can be found on this page. -

In December 2012, Brookline was the first New England city accepted as a member of the World Health Organization's Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities.
In September 2023 AARP accepted the application, prepared by the Age-Friendly Cities Committee, and submitted by the Select Board, to become part of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities.

Three
BrooklineCAN members work with the Brookline Interactive Group to produce an ongoing series of TV interviews. The guests are interesting people who deal with issues concerning older adults. Shows are broadcast on Comcast and RCN and are available on YouTube and the BrooklineCAN website. Media Relations

Lectures, author talks, education, and entertainmentPedestrian Advisory Committee
BrooklineCAN founder and co-chair Frank Caro was instrumental in starting the Transportation Board's Pedestrian Advisory Committee. The committee's mission is to encourage, plan for, and advocate for pedestrian access in Brookline. It advises the Transportation Board on matters related to pedestrians for commuting, general mobility, and pleasure, with an emphasis on safety and access. BrooklineCAN was one of the organizations that pushed for TRIPPS, which is now a permanent Senior Center program helping older adults with a variety of transportation issues. More information. -
At the urging of
BrooklineCAN and the town's age-friendly cities committee, the Department of Public works installed a total of 27 new benches along Beacon Street. More information and pictures. -
A team of
BrooklineCAN volunteers visited 100 businesses in 14 categories to make them aware of the features that would make them more friendly to older adults. Business managers filled out a checklist, received a window display sticker, and are listed on our website. -
